Morro Bay

Sunset over Morro Bay

Great White Egret

One of my favorite places to go and to photograph is Morro Bay up the Central Coast. I spent a week up there this summer and was reminded once again why I love to be there. The Bay’s wetlands and an estuary on its eastern shores are a natural habitat for a variety of birds including Herons, Pelicans, and Great White Egrets.

The Sweet Springs Nature Preserve at the southern end of the bay has a wonderful view of the bay and some great bird watching and the Elfin Forest offers an amazing panorama of the bay, Morro Rock sits looming in the background. If you want some slightly different perspectives, a kayak will allow you some close-up views of the shoreline and the abundant wildlife there.

There is a small pier in Baywood Park that is perfect for watching the evening’s sunset. Canoes and kayaks line the small beach line the small beach in the foreground as the sun sets over the dunes that separate the bay from the ocean. A perfect way to end the day.
